Giratina, along with Palkia and Dialga, is a member of the Creation trio of Sinnoh. According to Sinnoh myths, they were created by Arceus, simultaneously when the universe began. Each member of the trio, including Arceus, have control over their own dimentions, Giratina has control over antimatter and the Distortion World, where times does not flow and space is unstable.

Giratina is a large gray draconic Pokémon with gold half rings circling the back of its neck. A thick black stripe runs vertically along the front with red horizontal stripes. In its Altered Forme, it has two large black ghostly wings with red tips that can resemble claws. These wings can change shape as if it's a liquid or gas. Its six legs are thick and clawed.

The main color of the coat is gray. The neckline had the same half ring in gold that is placed on Giratina's head, and there is a gold stripe circling around the neckline, as well as a golden belt around the waist, inspired by the gold half rings circling the back of Giratina's neck. The coat also has a black, thick stripe that runs vertically along the center front with red horizontal stripes, this being the same look on Giratina. The back of the coat however, only has a thick, black stripe along the back. The golden spike-looking shaped along the hem of the coat and the end of the sleeves are supposed to represent Giratina's claws.
